Kelly is a dressage rider with over 20 years of experience showing multiple disciplines and starting young horses. After 9+ years as a riding and horsemanship instructor, both privately and for City of Redmond Parks and Recreation programs, Kelly helped found the equine mud management company, Lighthoof, and now balances that with continuing to fulfill her dream of improving the lives of horses as a conscientious stable owner, trainer, and breeder.
As a dressage-based trainer of young horses, competing horses, and companion horses, Kelly values the great outdoors as much as the show ring and likes to let horses “be themselves” as much as possible.
Her gentle and intuitive approach aims to develop each equine’s balance, strength, and understanding such that any style or level of riding can be easy and enjoyable for both partners.
Her regular training program includes cross training in-hand and under-saddle in the trail park and on the bridle path, developing strength, flexibility, and relaxation through classical dressage gymnastic exercises in the arena, occasional cavelletti and/or jumping days, and routine daily horse care tasks.
Kelly specializes in Fjords, but is happy to work with any breed and is experienced adapting to the different conformations and needs of Iberian horses, warmbloods, Thoroughbreds, Ponies, Morgans, Arabians, and others.
Accepting only a handful of students and/or training horses to allow time in the schedule for barn management and improvement tasks. Note: We are currently without a school horse, so you may bring your own horse in for training or lessons (we have space for you to board on-site) or we can help you find a lease horse to learn on.
